A native of North Carolina, violinist Amelia Dietrich thrives to be one of the most versatile and sensitive players of her generation. An avid chamber musician, Amelia has performed in chamber series all over the United States including Alice Tully Hall’s Wednesdays at One, National Sawdust, The Guggenheim, Colburn Chamber Music Society, and Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival among others alongside her mentors and inspirations Robert McDonald, Alessio Bax, Ida Kavafian, Ani Kavafian, Hye-Jin Kim, Hagai Shaham, David Bowlin, Steve Tenenbom, Nicholas Cords, Roger Tapping, Michael Kanen, Marc Coppey, and Adam Neiman. She has spent summers at the Internationale Sommerakademie in Austria, Yellow Barn Young Artist Program, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, Manchester Music Festival, The Perlman Chamber Music Workshop, and Yale’s Norfolk Chamber Music Festival.

Dedicated to the continued support of new music and its composers, Amelia has collaborated with the contemporary chamber orchestra in Los Angeles, Wild Up, and is a frequent artist with New York City’s up-and-coming conductorless orchestra Shattered Glass. Projects in just 2018 included a collaboration with Pulitzer Prize winning composer, Caroline Shaw at National Sawdust and the Guggenheim Museum, and world premieres of a piano quartet by Theo Chandler and new piano trio by Alex Burtzos.

Amelia was a founding member of the Calla Quartet in 2015 and was awarded the silver medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. The quartet has given performances across the US and Australia, including concerts in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Melbourne. As a group, they performed as Emerging Young Artists at festivals including The Perlman Chamber Music Workshop, Mimir Texas, and Mimir’s festival in Australia. The Calla Quartet has been coached by former Tokyo String Quartet members Martin Beaver and Clive Greensmith as well as the Guarneri String Quartet’s Arnold Steinhardt.

An advocate of community outreach and bringing classical music to the next generation of youth, Amelia is Perlman Program outreach artist and has given countless interactive performances throughout North Carolina, New York, Florida, and Los Angeles. She was named a Juilliard Gluck Fellow for the 2018-2019 year- a program dedicated to bringing educational performances to the infirm and disabled in New York City.

As a soloist, Amelia has given recitals throughout the US and was most recently a featured soloist with the Concert on the Hill Series in New Hampshire. As a previous student of Ara Gregorian at East Carolina University, Amelia performed in masterclasses for world renowned violinists Ida Kavafian, Hagai Shaham, Axel Strauss, Jennifer Koh, Yehonatan Berick, Soovin Kim, Gregory Fulkerson, Elina Vähälä, Donald Weilerstein, and Ray Chen. Amelia was a member of The Colburn Symphony Orchestra, where she has performed under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen, Sir Neville Marriner, Gilbert Varga, and David Zinman. From a young age, she was an active member of North Carolina Symphony’s Young All-Star orchestra and was concertmistress of the Eastern Youth Orchestra.

Amelia is now attending The Juilliard School in New York City in pursuit of her Masters under the tutelage of Ida Kavafian. She is a member of the Arte Quartet, part of the 2018-2019 Honors Chamber Music program studying with Natasha Brofsky and Misha Amory. She graduated in 2017 from the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles with her Bachelors in Music studying under renown pedagogue Robert Lipsett. Amelia currently plays on a 1794 Johannes Cuypers violin
